In recent years, researchers and policymakers have regarded culture as a part of soft power based on the theory developed by Joseph Nye which was formed basing on the reality of the United States or the world’s most powerful countries.

Despite being in the strategic vision, the inherent role and position of cultural soft power has not been properly affirmed. The practice of international relations shows that regardless of different goals in increasing soft power, the success of most countries which ranked in the top positions of the Soft Power map since 2015 (e.g. the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the United States, Japan, or emerging powers such as the Republic of Korea, Thailand, and China) has one common feature related to the transformation of cultural soft resources into cultural soft power that is attractive, appealing, and persuasive to receivers.

To provide readers with more information on this issue, the National Political Publishing House published a 590-page book entitled “Vietnam’s cultural soft power in the context of international integration” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong and Dr. Nguyen Cao Duc in 2021.

The authors explored the topic by establishing a mechanism to transform cultural soft resources into cultural soft power through impactful channels that can pervade, attract, and penetrate into receivers. Besides, they tried to identify the diverse, complex, and elusive picture in reality as well as the future of Vietnam’s cultural soft power in international relations. As a result, the writers found a solution to promote Vietnam’s cultural soft power by establishing a mechanism to transform cultural soft resources into cultural soft power with the synchronous coordination of transmission channels (cultural diplomacy, communication, cultural industries, cooperation mechanisms, etc)

The book consists of five chapters:

Chapter 1: Theoretical and practical foundation on Vietnam’s cultural soft power

Chapter 2: International experiences and lessons

Chapter 3: Identifying Vietnam’s cultural soft power in the context of international integration

Chapter 4: Forecasting the development of Vietnam’s cultural soft power until 2030

Chapter 5: Solutions to promote Vietnam’s cultural soft power
