In the contemporary world, in addition to threats in traditional security field, there are many issues in non-traditional security area that threaten human and national security including environmental pollution, climate change, pandemics, terrorism, cross-border migration, and hi-tech crimes.

Although non-traditional security issues do not directly challenge national sovereignty, they intimidate and destroy foundational factors for survival and development of human, social communities, nations, and the humankind. In particular, under negative impacts of the market economy, globalization and the development of science and technology, non-traditional security issues are likely to spread more widely with stronger threat. Therefore, non-traditional security becomes an important topic and a major concern mentioned in the defense and security strategies of many countries in the world.

The book, published by National Political Publishing House in 2021, provides readers with systematic information on non-traditional security in current international relations.

The book consists of four chapters that delve into some non-traditional security issues on the scientific and practical foundations through three approaches: individual level, national level, and system level. By such means, the authors proposed solutions to deal with impacts caused by non-traditional security factors in current international relations. In particular, they provided in-depth analysis on the current situation and solutions to cope with non-traditional security issues in Southeast Asia and Vietnam so that readers have clearer and deeper perspectives on impacts and consequences of non-traditional security issues, especially in the context of the increasingly unpredictable international situation, intertwinement, and complex transformation of traditional and non-tradtional security threats.
