The conference was co-chaired by comrades Thai Thanh Quy, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial Delegation of National Assembly Delegation, Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People’s Council; Phan Xuan Thuy, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Training Commission; Le Van Loi, Vice President of Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics.

Giving the introductory speech at the opening of the conference, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang emphasized that the scientific conference to celebrate the 120th birthday of Comrade Le Hong Phong is a practical activity to remember and appreciate the revolutionary career and comrade Le Hong Phong’s noble life and his great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, contributing to the implementation of the current Resolutions and Directives of the Party Central Committee, continuing to promote the study and follow of the ideology, morality and style of the great President Ho Chi Minh, making contributions to strengthening, fostering and educating traditional and revolutionary ideals for all classes of people, especially for the next generation.

In memory of and gratitude to Comrade Le Hong Phong, we remember his noble revolutionary life with profound lessons about the steadfast spirit of striving for the Party’s goals and ideals, and for the happiness of the People, willing to put the interests of the Party and the People first and foremost, being closely connected to the people, taking the interests of the People as the purpose, standard and measure to test the correctness of acting; about constantly learning, training in all aspects to best complete all missions; on the example of the international communist soldier, skillfully combining genuine patriotism with the pure international spirit of the proletariat; on upholding revolutionary heroism, resilience and indomitable will in the face of the enemy; about the sense of protecting the ideological foundation of the Party, resolutely fighting against wrong ideas, and defeating all the enemy's plots and tricks to destroy and distort revolutionary achievements.

“Those are important and practical lessons in the renovation process, building a Vietnam with rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization,” emphasized Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang.

Speaking to welcome the conference, on behalf of the Provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee Thai Thanh Quy emotionally reviewed the life, career, and great contributions of General Secretary Le Hong Phong. “Comrade Le Hong Phong’s life, merits and great contributions will forever be a shining example in the heroic revolutionary cause of the Party and the Vietnamese revolution, in boundless memory and respect of each Vietnamese person, brightening the homeland’s traditions of Nghe An hometown”, said the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee.

Promoting the traditions of the heroic Soviet homeland, learning from the example of General Secretary Le Hong Phong and generations of revolutionary predecessors, the Nghe An Party Committee and People have persevered, stood firm, overcame difficulties, challenges and made many important contributions through the revolutionary periods, struggling together with the people of the whole country to win glorious victories in the revolution of national liberation, national reunification, building the homeland, making the country more prosperous, stronger, and more civilized.

The Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee affirmed that the scientific conference would contribute to enriching and deepening the life, honoring the merits and contributions of Comrade Le Hong Phong to the revolutionary cause of the Party and our People; hence enforcing understanding of and pride in the historical and cultural traditions of the Nghe An’s land and people.

Along with the conference, the activities to celebrate the 120th birthday of General Secretary Le Hong Phong are political activities of special significance, contributing to increasing spiritual motivation and encouragement for sectors, units, encouraging cadres, party members, compatriots and soldiers at all levels to enthusiastically emulate at labor, creativity, study and work, successfully implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress. The conference proceedings will be very valuable historical data of the Party, State and Nghe An province, serving the work of studying, researching, propagating, educating patriotism, pride in and self-respect for the nation for generations, especially the young generation today and long into the future.

Overview of the conference

At the conference, there were nearly 50 presentations given by Party leaders, representatives of agencies and scientists in central departments and branches such as Central Propaganda and Training Commission, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front, Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, Nghe An province - comrade Le Hong Phong’s hometown, Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, localities where Le Hong Phong used to do revolutionary activities, and so on. The presentations focused on analyzing and evaluating the outstanding activities and contributions of comrade Le Hong Phong on the following contents: The influence of the homeland rich in patriotic and indomitable traditions on the formation of personality, nurture of the soul, enthusiasm, and revolutionary spirit of comrade Le Hong Phong; Comrade Le Hong Phong - an excellent leader of the Vietnamese Party and revolution; Comrade Le Hong Phong – aninternational communist soldier. He was truly a typical and noble example of a communist soldier with regard to the combination of true patriotism and pure proletarian internationalism.

From the analysis of comrade Le Hong Phong’s activities and great contributions to the Vietnamese Party and revolution, the presentations given at the Conference came to a conclusion that he was a shining example of a resilient communist soldier, a superb leader, an excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh, who fought and sacrificed his whole life for the revolutionary cause of the Party, for the prosperous and happy life of the people. The glorious revolutionary life and career of comrade Le Hong Phong activities will forever be a shining example for cadres, party members and people, and generations of today and future generations to study and follow. Comrade Le Hong Phong’s spirit, bravery and communist qualities are invaluable assets of the Vietnamese Party and revolution with lasting values, and will endlessly etched in the hearts of the Vietnamese people.

The conference also focused on explaining and clarifying that the good traditions of Nghe An homeland and the entire nation are the nurturing environment and have contributed to the forging of many excellent figures of the land of “stellar human genius”, including Comrade Le Hong Phong - a great personality, an excellent leader of both the Vietnamese Party and revolution and the international communist movement. Comrade Le Hong Phong, with his brilliant talent and personality, has left a deep mark on the development of the local revolutionary movements, being the driving force for the Nghe An Party Committee and people to strive for victory and great achievements in the cause of protecting, building and developing the homeland and the whole country through revolutionary periods. Nghe An Party Committee and people are forever proud and deeply grateful for his contributions to the homeland and country; make every effort to study and follow the shining and exemplary example of communist soldier Le Hong Phong, to build and develop Nghe An’s homeland to become richer, more beautiful, prosperous and happier.

At the conference, Mr. Le Van Thong, a representative of General Secretary Le Hong Phong’s family thanked leaders of the Party and State, Nghe An province for their care and help in organising a very meaningful scientific conference, helping to understand more deeply and fully General Secretary Le Hong Phong’s background, life and revolutionary career. At the same time, he promised to continue promoting the family traditions in today's life, deserving to be the posterity of General Secretary Le Hong Phong.

Speaking at the conclusion and closing of the conference, Comrade Phan Xuan Thuy, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Training Commission emphasized the practical significance of the scientific conference on the life, career, and moral example of Comrade Le Hong Phong, a talented leader, an excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh. The typical moral example of Comrade Le Hong Phong will forever be a source of pride and encouragement for cadres, party members and people of all walks of life, especially the young Vietnamese generations to study and follow.
